The sculptures that can be found on the Enchanted Highway are made by artist Gary Greff, a teacher from the town of Regent, North Dakota who saw his town transforming into a ghost town. Eager to keep the people in Regent, he taught himself welding and the art of making sculptures that he placed along the highway and would attract people from Interstate 94 to Regent. His statement:

"Our goal is to change the region into the metal art capital of the world, if nobody tries, we are a community that's going to be extinct. I'm one person who will not let that happen."

The placemarks are now finally put into the right place with the help of Google's street view, making some Google Earth placemarks and Panoramio locations obsolete.
